Riotorto is a hamlet of Piombino, in Tuscany, province of Livorno, on the Etruscan Coast. It is a small village of around 1,500 inhabitants along the Via Aurelia, between the Montioni woods and the sea, which is about 4 km away.
On the coast below Riotorto stretches the Sterpaia Coastal Park, with miles of sandy beaches and pine woods. Unlike the busier resorts, the atmosphere here is peaceful: that is why Riotorto is an ideal base for a holiday combining the sea, hill villages and nature in the Val di Cornia.

The name comes from the meanders of an old watercourse, the Fosso di Ritorto. The area was marshland until the 19th-century land reclamation, which turned it into farmland planted with vineyards and olive groves.
