Calamoresca Beach in Piombino: complete guide

Calamoresca beach, also spelt Cala Moresca, is one of the most beautiful coves on the Etruscan Coast. It is in Piombino, Tuscany, near Salivoli, at the foot of the Punta Falcone promontory. Unlike the long sandy beaches of the area, it offers a wilder setting, with rocks, crystal-clear water and a seabed that drops off quickly.

In this guide you will find how to get to Calamoresca, where to park and what the beach is like. Be careful not to confuse it with the Cala Moresca of the same name in Sardinia, near Golfo Aranci.

What Calamoresca Beach is like

The Calamoresca beach is a small bay surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, ideal for those looking for clear water, tranquility, and a landscape different from large sandy beaches.

Its main features include:

  • rocky seabed with water that becomes deep very quickly;
  • very clean and transparent sea;
  • both free beach areas and a beach club.

It’s a perfect beach for swimming, relaxing, and enjoying a day in a more natural and intimate setting. Thanks to its seabed, it is especially appreciated by those who love clear waters and wild, scenic coves.

Where Calamoresca is located

Cala Moresca beach is in Piombino, near the Salivoli district and the marina, in the Punta Falcone Park area. It is a stretch of rocky coastline with views of Elba and the Piombino Channel.

From Villaggio Mare Verde it takes about 25 minutes by car (16 km): it is an ideal half-day trip, to alternate with the sandy beaches of the Sterpaia, a few minutes from the village.

How to get to Calamoresca

Once in Piombino, follow the signs for Salivoli and then for Calamoresca. Leave the car in one of the car parks in the area and walk down.

The beach lies well below the road: you reach it by a walk down of about 10 minutes, which is fairly steep. The way back is uphill, so wear comfortable shoes, bring little gear and, with small children, use a baby carrier instead of a pushchair.

Calamoresca parking: where to leave your car

The most convenient parking for Calamoresca is in the via Salivoli area, in addition to the spaces along the road. From there you walk down to the beach.

In summer, especially at weekends, spaces fill up quickly: it is best to arrive by 9 am or in the late afternoon, when many people leave and the cove is quieter.

Is Calamoresca a free beach or a beach club?

Calamoresca has both: a stretch of free beach and a beach club with umbrellas, sunloungers, showers, a bar and a restaurant, where you can also hire pedalos, canoes and SUPs.

If you prefer a simple day, bring your own towel to the free section; if you want more comfort, book an umbrella. In high season, places at the beach club should be booked in advance.

Why visit Calamoresca Beach

  • clear, transparent water, excellent for snorkelling;
  • a sheltered cove between rocks and Mediterranean scrub;
  • views of the Island of Elba;
  • a few minutes from the centre of Piombino and Piazza Bovio.

If you like rocky coves, nearby there are also the Buca delle Fate and the beaches of the Gulf of Baratti. For a day of sand and shallow water, on the other hand, there is the Sterpaia Coastal Park. You will find them all in our guide to the beaches of the Etruscan Coast.
